1 Peter 1:13-21 Be Holy

Peter moves on in this letter to give 5 imperatives - things Christians need to do in response to all God has done for them and the glory to be revealed.
In this sermon we look at the first three - think straight, be distinctive, fear God

Peter bursts out in a stream of praise to God for the blessings of an eternal inheritance, of knowing Jesus and being able to keep rejoicing, even in trials

Hebrews 2:1-4 Don't Drift Away

This is the first exhortation from the writer to the Hebrews. If the word from the angels was serious, how much more the word from Jesus. So you must keep listening and trusting the word of Jesus.

Hebrews 1:5-14 God rules the universe by His Son

Jesus is God’s final word, the creator. He has finished his work and sat down at God’s right hand in the place of honour

Hebrews chapter 1:5-14 contain a stream of quotations from the Old Testament showing that Jesus can be completely trusted. He’s greater than angels, in fact angels are under his authority working for the good of believers like us.

1 Peter 1:1,2 Chosen Strangers

As Christians we suffer because we are strangers in this world. But at the same time we are joyful because no matter how hard life becomes God Chose me. God really does have a greater purpose for us and we do not need to be ashamed.

Is Jesus Qualified to be your leader?

AMS
How do we know Jesus is the one we can trust, and keep on trusting to bring us safely home to the new heavens and new earth?
Yesterday we started a series in Hebrews 1:1-4. The writer tells us that Jesus is uniquely qualified because...

·         He is the final communication from God. God had spoken in all kinds of ways up till the coming of Jesus, but now he speaks definitively and fully in Jesus.

·         He is the creator. Jesus is the one who made everything and shares all the characteristics of God.

·         He is the only Saviour. He finished the work of making us clean from our sins

So we can trust Him, and more than that we can be so thankful and joyful for a perfect complete Saviour

All-Age: We are made for the glory of God

What is your purpose? Why are you here?

If you can't answer this question life becomes meaningless and at best you will try and extract every last moment of pleasure because you have no idea what else to do, and at worst you will become desperate and depressed.

But when we know God, he tells us that we live for His glory. That's what we were made. And to know this is humbling but also liberating.
In our all-age service we began to work through some questions and answers about God, known as 'the catechism.

Sermon at Kate and Will's Wedding - what do you think?

I suppose there are a couple of good lines in it. But 2 Billion people... easy for me to say but couldn't he have said something about the exclusive claims of Jesus?
